How does this calculator work?

The number you see on the right is computed in your browser the moment you change any input — there's no server round-trip and no email gate. The same pricing model runs on our backend at order time, so this estimate sits within ±15% of the invoice you'll actually pay. The ±15% band exists because the real quote depends on STL specifics — wall thickness, support volume, print orientation, and infill — that a raw cm³ figure can't capture.

The pricing model

We start from the part's volume in cubic centimetres and the material's per-cm³ cost. PLA sits at ₹4.5/cm³, PETG and ABS at ₹5.0–5.5, and engineering filaments like Nylon climb to ₹14/cm³. SLA resins run ₹12–20/cm³ depending on grade. You can compare every filament and resin in detail on our materials guide.

Next we add machine time. Each material has a base print speed in cm³/hour and a machine cost per hour — the BambuLab X1Cs we run for FDM push around 18 cm³/hr on PLA and 8 cm³/hr on TPU; the Form 4 SLAs are slower at 5–6 cm³/hr. Quality tiers scale this speed: draft prints 60% faster than standard at 0.28 mm layers, while ultra at 0.05 mm runs at 40% of standard speed. Slower print = more machine hours = higher cost — there's no free lunch.

Setup, post-processing, margin

Every job carries a flat ₹199 setup fee covering slicing, build-plate prep, calibration and QA — resin jobs add another ₹50 for vat maintenance. Post-processing options charge a flat per-job fee plus a per-cm² rate scaled to the part's surface area, which we approximate as 6 × V^(2/3) (between a cube and a sphere). Sanding is the cheapest add-on at ₹100 flat + ₹0.20/cm²; full painting jumps to ₹250 + ₹0.50/cm². Quality multipliers (0.85× for draft, up to 1.7× for ultra) are then applied, and a 40% studio margin sits on top.

Tax and shipping

For Indian buyers we add 18% GST. For export orders the entire order is zero-rated under IGST §16 — you pay no Indian tax, but your local courier collects import duty/VAT on delivery (DAP terms via DHL Express). Shipping is ₹149 flat across India and ₹2,499 flat internationally, both free above ₹5,000 of print value.

When to upload an STL instead

This calculator is great for budgeting and feasibility checks. For a real quote — especially for parts above 50 cm³ or anything with overhangs, hollow sections or multi-material assemblies — head to our custom print page and drop the STL/OBJ/3MF. We'll come back within a few hours with the actual print volume, support volume, recommended orientation and a firm ₹ price.

FAQ

Common questions

How accurate is this calculator?

Within ±15% of the real quote. Final price after we review the STL geometry, supports, and orientation.

Why is resin more expensive?

Material cost ~3× FDM, plus mandatory UV curing and tighter QA on each pour.

Do I pay GST?

Yes, for buyers in India: 18% GST on the print cost. Export buyers pay zero Indian tax (zero-rated under IGST §16).

How long does printing take?

Lead time is shown in the calculator. Standard quality is 4 days for FDM, 6 days for resin. Add 1-2 days per post-processing step.

Can I print my own STL file?

Yes — head to /custom-print to upload STL/OBJ/3MF and get an exact quote.
